On 10 October at 17.00 an exhibition "Women jewellery - beauty of the world" from the collection of Russian Museum of Ethnography (Saint Petersburg) is being opened in Kaliningrad Amber Museum. Over 260 adornments created in 18–20 centuries by the masters that lived in different parts of our great country will be presented in the exhibition. Among them – unique necklaces, chains, bracelets, earrings, buckles, fibulas with amber and other organic materials (mother-of-pearl, pearl, corals), also with coloured seed beads, glass beads, woolen and golden threads made in national traditions.
Russian Museum of Ethnography is one the biggest ethnographical museums of Europe, proximate successor of the Department for Ethnography of the Russian Museum of the emperor Alexander III. Date of its establishment is considered 10 (23) January 1902, when its staffing table was authorized and its financing was started. Building of the museum was built in 1902–1913 upon the project of the architect V.F.Sviniin. In 1934 the Department for Ethnography was granted the status of an independent institution and in 1991 it was included in State Code of Particularly Valuable Objects of National Heritage of Russia.
Russian Museum of Ethnography is a unique center of concentration and research of ethnic culture of peoples of the Russian Federation and neighboring states. Its collection comprises of over 700000 depositary items. These are objects, archive materials, documentary photography and books showing specifics of traditional culture of over 150 peoples of Eastern Europe, Siberia, Far East, Caucasus, Central Asia and other regions.
