On 24 June, the Russian conference “Principles, Conceptions of Forming Jewellery and Lapidary Collections in Museums of Russian Federation” will be held in the museum.
Participants of the conference are speakers from the most significant museums of our country and ones of the Kaliningrad region. Following museums are going to share their experience: Museums of the Moscow Kremlin, the State Hermitage (Saint Petersburg), Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts, the Russian Academy of Arts (Moscow), Monument museum “St. Isaac's Cathedral” (Saint Petersburg), State Museum and Reserve “Tsarskoe Selo” (Saint Petersburg), Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Arts (Moscow), Museum of the Lapidary and Jewellery History (Yekaterinburg), and other cultural institutions of our country.
Main goal of the conference for the Amber Museum is to discuss possible approaches to forming jewellery and lapidary collections and compare them with own practice in this field, to find out, in what degree the museum’s collection reflects the real artistic process. Results of the conference have strategic significance for the development of the Amber Museum. Based on the materials of the event, the conference proceedings will be published.
In the soil of Kaliningrad region, almost 90% of explored world reserve of amber is concentrated. Since 1947, the world’s only company that extracts and processes amber industrially has been working in the region. And in 1979, the first Amber Museum in Russia was opened.
Items created from the Baltic gem are not only souvenirs for tourists, coming to the region. Best artworks made by artists often become parts of museums' collections in Russia and other countries, participating in shaping the picture of culture development in world’s regions in various contexts.
