YURY LOPATKIN
Was born in 1962 in the town of Kirov (now Vyatka). In 1985 graduated from Kaliningrad Technical Institute of Fishing Industry with the qualification of mechanical engineer and started working at the All-Russian research institute «Elektrotransport». Started working with amber in 1993. Collaborates with various amber companies. Regularly participates in exhibitions of applied art.
Yury Lopatkin is a recognized maker of interior amber objects. He sometimes borrows the general silhouette of his works from the masters of the 17th and 18th centuries, but each time he makes his own original design. Quite often a large wooden frame makes the basis for the mosaic composition assembled from the pieces carefully selected to match the color and pattern. However, sometimes the master makes use of metal or synthetic materials and makes the supporting frame light (clock «Magic», 2001).
Yury decorates the clocks tastefully with varied decorative parts: engraved plates made of bone or metal, intalio with the use of lining from mirror plates, mascarons from white amber, and carved compositions in which vegetative motives predominate. Chiseled balusters give the articles lightness and delicacy. Besides clocks Yury Lopatkin makes small mosaic caskets, table cigarette, convenient pencil holders.
