VYACHESLAV MISHIN

Was born in 1944 in the village of Berezaika, Kalinin region. In 1970 he graduated from the Radiophysics and Electronics Department of Kazan University. In the 1980s he took an interest in amber. In 1987 he took a jewelry making course at the popular arts and crafts studio of the Kaliningrad Folk Art House. He is the laureate of the Second Folk Art Festival ‘Rainbow’. Since 1993 he has been a member of the Russian Artists’ Union.

While making a piece of jewelry from amber, Mishin doesn’t reduce its spiritual wealth at all. He just adapts the amber to the human being. He stingily works with metal as it is of minor importance for him – just to frame, to emphasize, to connect. He prefers to work with silver thinking that amber suffers less loss in this combination. The extemporaneous manner of the artist’s work doesn’t prevent him from creating articles of strict and clear form. He tries to discern the original idea in the natural material itself and then to turn it into a piece of jewelry with the minimum of loss. That’s why the best of Mishin’s works have a lightness and naturalness that create the impression that the stones were supposed to be combined.
