ROLAND BENISLAVSKY
Was born in 1940 in the town of Kuldyga, Latvia. In 1962 graduated from Liepaya college of applied art, started working at the Kaliningrad Amber Factory as a jeweler and later as an artist. Memeber of the Artists’ Union of Russia.
In his art the traditions of Russian jewelry art are organically combined with a unique approach that is typical of the Baltic masters. The jewelry pieces made by the artist are light and elegant, their images have been influenced by the motifs of Russian folklore. He is able to «reveal the stone» like nobody else can. According to the artist, he works with the amber like a sculptor: he removes everything that is superfluous in order to reveal its special beauty to the world. The master likes to deal with rare bright red, bluish and greenish amber.
Besides jewelry R. Benislavsky makes souvenirs, mosaic caskets, cigarette holders and table decorations. Today he continues to work successfully not only with amber but with other stones: with turquoise, coral, chrysoprase, as well as with mother-of-pearl, leather and wood.
