Was born in 1972 in the town of Yantarny. She studied at the Kaliningrad Training

Center and at the Moscow Slavic Institute. Since 2003 she has been working at the

Kaliningrad Amber Factory as a carver in the Author’s Studio.

Lyudmila Shalina is representative of the younger generation of artists. She started

to work with amber in a group producing souvenirs at the Amber Factory. There she

carved miniature animals – elephants, fish, cats, etc. Her works were noticed and then

she began to create her own original works. «I wanted to «animate» my figurines, - says

Lyudmila, - to see how they move, to feel a certain mood in them. Even if a character

isn’t so beautiful, it must be alive». For the last year the artist has created more than

twenty carved works. Among them are the sculptures «Catherine II», «Charley Chaplin»,

and the bas-relief «Unicorn». But especially successful are the characters of the fairy tale

«Pinocchio» in her interpretation. They are smart, touching, and a little bit funny – that’s

how children see them with wide opened exalted eyes.
