IGOR BRASYUNAS

Was born in 1955 in the town of Lysva (Perm Region). Then his family moved to Chelyabinsk. After finishing secondary school he studied at the Ceramics Department of Vasnetsov Art School of Ambramtsevo (Moscow region). During his studies he also carved wood and processed stone. Since 1983 he had lived and worked in Kaliningrad. He had participated in exhibitions since 1995.

Having received his education at the famous Art School of Abramtsevo, Igor Brasyunas began to work with the Baltic gem quite late. «Amber is a slow stone. Many years are required to comprehend it, said the artist. – Amber is much more difficult than marble, bronze or wood. It is barely perceptible as a sculpture, some details are not clear, and all you can see is just a silhouette shining in the sun. Besides, amber is seldom of a homogeneous colour. Its shine and unique pattern ‘break’ the form devised by a carver to an even greater extent.» Igor Brasyunas is the author of elegant cameos, refined intaglios of delicate details. But his talent most lustrously revealed itself in amber sculptures. He liked to make chess figures. He carves full-length figures; their postures are ingenious and full of elegance and inner energy. He is the maker of unusual series of flasks and rings ‘Fossil-Art’. He organized the first Informal Association of Artists ‘Romantic project’ in the Kaliningrad region.
